- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup raisins or currants (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk and egg until just combined.
- Add raisins or currants if using.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
- Roll out to about 1-inch thick and cut into rounds.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
- Cool slightly before serving with jam and cream.

- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
