Description
A traditional German cake with a delicious apple filling and a crumbly streusel topping.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add butter and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.
- Reserve half of the mixture for topping.
- Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
- Arrange sliced apples on top of the crust.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and oats over the apples.
- Top with the reserved crumb mixture.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
- Use tart apples for best flavor.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
